My phone rang at about 2 o’clock in the morning. Her contractions were getting closer together and very consistent. She knew that it was time, and baby was finally on her way. I hopped out of bed, threw my hair up, grabbed my camera bag, and headed out the door to meet Lindsay and Jeremy as they were about to welcome their second daughter to the world.

When I arrived, the house was quiet and calm. Lindsay’s midwives were preparing her birthing pool and she and her husband were breathing through contractions together while their oldest daughter slept peacefully upstairs. Hours passed as she labored in the pool, her body progressing and the delivery drawing near. Through every contraction, Jeremy was applying counter pressure, rubbing her back, and telling her how beautifully she was doing. And then in the minutes between contractions, offering her coconut water or a cool towel.

Finally, in the 6 o’clock hour, their little girl was born, just in time to watch the sunrise. And in that moment, all was right and perfect in the world. Their little miracle was finally in their arms.

Lindsay’s birth was one of the most beautiful births I have had the privilege of photographing. Her strength was inspiring and the support that Jeremy gave to his wife was amazing.
