Sweet baby Zane came to my studio for his newborn session when he was just shy of two weeks old, while he was still so tiny and sleepy. I loved getting to know his sweet mom and dad, hearing their love story, and learning all about their sweet boy and how much parenthood has changed their lives already. (It’s amazing how quickly and drastically your life changes when these little people join your family.)
Zane was such a good little guy during his very first photo session. He was such a widdle squish and I fell completely in love with his little cowlick. He was the sweetest!
Meet my new little friend, Zane Alexander.
“We announced my pregnancy over the Christmas holiday. We created custom onesies for our parents. We had them open the gifts while secretly recording their reaction. They were very surprised and excited!”
“We had a small gender reveal party with immediate family. During the party we went outside and lit a smoke bomb. We found out we were having a boy when we saw the blue smoke! We were so happy we cried. I couldn’t wait to start decorating the nursery!”
“Feeling the baby kick was the best and most surprising thing during pregnancy. It was so crazy to feel him moving around. He was very active and it felt like he was doing flips all the time. I told everyone he was preparing for his American Ninja Warrior audition.”
“I was just excited for him to be here and definitely to hold him. I could wait to meet him and see who he looked like.
“The labor and delivery was great! I was very lucky. I went in to be induced at 5am, had an epidural, and had baby Zane by 1pm. It was super quick and pretty painless. The recovery wasn’t as bad as I thought either. I was really nervous beforehand. So many people tell you horror stories, but I was pleasantly surprised that everything went so smoothly.
“David isn’t that great around blood, so I honestly thought he was going to pass out. We even put $100 bucks on it. He was amazing though and made it through like a champ!”
“I didn’t really have any expectations about what Zane would look like. I knew he would have hair and he did – lots!
“We thought he was perfect and beautiful. It was love at first sight for both of us. It was so surreal at the same time. He was here and we were a family of three.”
“[Being a parent] is better than I think we expected! Your heart just grows so much after you have a baby.
“It’s really hard in the beginning, but everything starts to turn a corner around week 6. You get in a rhythm and get the hang of being a parent.
“You definitely have to have patience and lean on your partner. Your a team and you have to put in equal effort to get everything done.”
“Give yourself grace to make mistakes. Give your partner grace. Talk to each other and get on the same page about a routine. Figure out who is going to do what so one person (mom) isn’t overwhelmed.
And fed is best. If you can’t breastfeed, it’s not the end of the world. Don’t beat yourself up if you have to supplement or can’t do it at all. It took me a long time to accept it and I felt really guilty about not being able to feed him 100 percent on my own. But now I just give him as much as I can and supplement the rest. We are really happy and he is doing great. ”
